Information Technology News

March 2017

ITMR Deadline: The Division of Information Technology ITMR deadline for this fiscal year will be June 1st 2017. This deadline has become necessary in order to ensure that the ITMR is completed by the end of the fiscal year. Any ITMR submitted after the deadline will be reviewed on a case by case basis and may not be able to be completed by August 31st . Please feel free to contact IT Help Desk at 2692 if you have any additional concerns or issues.

Upgrade to Microsoft Office 2016: IT will be making Microsoft Office 2016 required software on all University owned Windows computers on May 20, 2017.  We are making this change in order to standardize our version of Microsoft Office and to take advantage of the enhanced features of the newest version.  The installation will shut down any open versions of Office during installation, so please save all work before the installation deadline.

Upgrade of Labs & Classrooms to Windows 10: TAMU-CC IT began a Windows 10 pilot program in the fall of FY17 to test compatibility between Windows 10 and standard lab and classroom software.  We will begin migrating all lab and classroom computers to Windows 10 at the end of spring FY17 and will finish before fall FY18.

TAMU-CC IT security enhancements will change the way staff and faculty access major applications: On April 3, 2017, TAMUCC will be enhancing security on Blackboard, Banner, and a variety of applications used at TAMU-CC. Implementing these new security measures will change the way all faculty, staff, and student workers will access campus applications.  Instead of just typing a username and password, all employees will also have to authenticate using a system called Duo.

Each user must take steps to prepare for this change to Duo.  During the month of March, each faculty and staff user should enroll him or herself in Duo and register at least two devices (e.g., a smartphone and an office phone). To learn how to do this, go to the following website: it.tamucc.edu/twostep

On April 3, faculty and staff who have not taken these steps will be unable to login to Blackboard/Banner as well as other applications.

If you need more assistance, contact the TAMUCC IT Help Desk or attend one of the training sessions being held every Friday in March (with the exception of 3/17) from 2-4 pm in CCH 204.

Television Services Under Maintenance: On the morning of March 7, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will be performing IPTV Maintenance. During this time television services will be unavailable for approximately four hours starting at 7:00 am. If you have any questions or concerns, contact James Copeland at ext. 3268 or email James.Copeland@Tamucc.edu.

New Software for Apple Computers: In order to enhance the computing experience and to provide improved security for the Macintosh platform, TAMU-CC IT will be rolling out LANrev to all Apple Comput-ers. LANrev is systems-lifecycle-management software used by sys-tem administrators to automate IT administration tasks. TAMU-CC IT will be using LANrev to manage software and image delivery, patch management, asset management, and encryption for Macs.

Changes Coming to WebEx:

November 2016

Stay on top of your email with Focused Inbox: Effective November 2016, Microsoft will make the new Focused Inbox feature available for Office 365 email. Similar to the Clutter feature, Focused Inbox makes managing email easier by helping you focus on the messages that matter most to you. It separates your inbox into two tabs—Focused and Other. Emails that matter most to you are in the Focused tab, while the rest remain easily accessible—but out of the way in the Other tab. If you are currently using the Clutter feature you may continue to do so, but this folder will eventually be completely replaced with Focused Inbox. If you find that Focused Inbox isn't for you, you can turn it off at any time.
