IslandID Two-Factor Authentication

Powered by Duo Security

Two-factor authentication powered by Duo will be enabled on all current student accounts by last name following this schedule:

Add an extra level of security to your IslandID account

Verifying your identity using a second factor, such as your phone or other mobile device, will prevent anyone but you from logging into your accounts. Even if they know your password. All University faculty and staff are required to enroll in Duo to protect their IslandID account.

How does it work?

Loggin In

Once you've enrolled in IslandID Two-Factor Authentication, you'll login as usual with your IslandID and password, and then use your device to verify that it's you via push notification from the mobile app, entering a passcode sent in a text message or answering a phone call.

No mobile phone? You can also use a landline or tablet. View the Guide to Two-Factor Authentication for a full list of supported devices.

Why do I need this?

Passwords are increasingly easy to compromise. They can often be stolen, guessed, or hacked — you might not even know someone is accessing your account.

Two-factor authentication adds a second layer of security, keeping your account secure even if your password is compromised. You'll be alerted right away on your enrolled mobile device if someone is trying to log in as you.

This second factor of authentication is separate and independent from your username and password.
